2006  Outdoor  Burn  Rules

The following information addresses the types of materials which can be 

legally burned, and the hours and days that outdoor burning is permitted.

PLEASE help us keep our city safe from fire hazards!

 

The City of Lowry Crossing requires a permit to burn inside of the city

limits. This permit is available at no cost, and is valid for a period of 1 year.

and please be sure to follow all of the steps and rules as outlined below.

 

If you live in the County, you will need to contact the County Fire Marshals

 Office to obtain a County Burn Permit, and a copy of the County’s Burn Rules.

Steps to Follow:

          

  1. Go to city hall to pick up your free permit to burn inside of city limits. Contact City Hall at: (972) 542-8678
  1. Call the Burn Day Information Line to see if it is a Burn Day, or if a Burn Ban is currently in effect.

3.       If you are going to be conducting a large burn, call Collin County Dispatch to let them know the address at   which you will be conducting the burn. Contact Collin County Dispatch at: (972) 547-5350

  1. If the weather or wind has changed since you first called the Burn Information Line, please call again to be

        sure that it is still acceptable to be conducting a burn.

 

Rules for Burning:

 

  1. ONLY dry plant growth from your property can be burned. ABSOLUTELY NO: Lumber, trash, plastics, chemicals, paper, or building materials of any kind can be burned, at any time, or for any reason.

  1. Absolutely no burning after dark (except as outlined in #10). Hours of burning are from Sunrise to Sunset.
  1. NO Hauling of plant growth (or any other material) from another property to your burn site is allowed.
  1. There must be a firebreak of at least 50 feet around the material to be burned. Burn piles should be no larger than  5 feet high and 10 feet across.
  1. The burn site must be located at least 75 feet from any structures, and at least 300 feet away from any structures or recreational areas located downwind, except if located on the property where the burn is to take place.
  1. An adequate supply of water to control the burn is required at the site.
  1. A competent person of at least 18 years of age must be in attendance at the site during the entire burn.
  1. No burning is allowed on days the wind is, or is expected to be, in excess of 15 mph.
  1. No burning on Ozone Action days and absolutely no burning will be allowed during Burn Bans.

        Burn Bans will remain in effect until the County Judge rescinds the Burn Ban.

  1. Fires 3 feet or less in diameter are allowed when used solely for recreational purposes, in the noncommercial preparation of food, or exclusively as a means to provide warmth in cold weather. All safety requirements still apply.
  1. Residents of Lowry Crossing enjoy the privilege of home fireworks displays. You are directly responsible for the safe use of fireworks by yourself and your family. The owner or lessee of the property must be in attendance during the use of any fireworks. Lowry Crossing follows County guidelines regarding what types of fireworks will be allowed (which is determined by weather conditions). Fireworks cause dozens of fires in our area every year. PLEASE USE EXTREME CARE WHEN YOU OR YOUR FAMILY ARE USING FIREWORKS!

  

   VIOLATIONS

      of these rules will likely result in the permit being revoked, fines imposed by the Fire Marshal, and the fire extinguished.

 

Authorization to conduct outdoor burning or the use of fireworks does not exempt or excuse a person from the responsibility, consequences, damages, or injuries resulting from the authorized burning, and does not excuse a person from complying with any other applicable laws, ordinances, or regulations.
